The Plate load test is one of the method to find out safe Bearing capacity (SBC) of shallow foundation. In this test the loading steel plate are placed at the foundation level of test location and recording the settlements corresponding to each load increment. The loading plate are available with size of 300, 450 and 600 mm in circular and square form. The Plate Load test will be conducted by using two load arrangement.
Introduction: The plate load test, which is used to determine bearing capacity of the soil, may be carried out by either using a vehicle loading or truss loading method. A test pit of the same depth as the foundation and width equal to five times the size of bearing plate is pit in the ground
Necessity: Determine the ultimate bearing capacity of the soil and the probable settlement under a given load. This test is very popular for the selection and design of the shallow foundation.
